On the last month

I’m not going to delve too deeply into what’s been going on in the games industry over the past few weeks. Everything that needed to be said has already been said by people far more erudite than I.

Without going into details, let me just say that it’s kind of taken the wind out of my game development sails for about the last month as I’ve wrestled with whether or not I still want to be in the game development industry at all — whether I want to spend my time slowly getting poorer while making entertainments for jerks.

I’m chagrined that it’s taken me more than three weeks to remember that the game-playing public isn’t actually made up of jerks. The vast, overwhelming majority is made up of lovely people who want to be good to each other. It’s just a vocal anonymous minority (primarily on Twitter) that are being hateful.

So screw those people. I’m going to continue making my game(s), and I’m going to continue to support any real people who need support. And maybe I’m going to steer clear of Twitter, since it seems like such an effective vehicle for campaigns of mob harassment. Anyone who wants to contact me, of course, can always do so via e-mail. Or in the comments here.
